Carpenters Club

Jesus was a carpenter, we build homes in obedience to Him as we seek to remove substandard housing in Henry County.  The Carpenter's Club is a fundraising arm of Habitat for Humanity to provide start-up funds for the next house.  We ask Carpenter's members to donate $50 after the completion of each house.  Individuals, church groups, civic groups, school classes - any may become Carpenter's by sending $50 to Henry County Habitat for Humanity, Box 864, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa 52641.

"But I'm not a carpenter..." you might say.
Webster's definition of a carpenter is "...one who builds and repairs wooden things, especially buildings."

Habitat's definition of a Carpenters Club member is one who supports the building and repair of simple decent housing for those in need by making a commitment to contribute every month to insure a regular source of funds for building supplies and administrative expenses.

One of the challenges to running a successful Habitat affiliate is to ensure that there is adequate cash flow year round to support building.  The average Habitat home costs over $60,000 in building materials and excavation work.

Why you should join the Carpenters Club:

● There are no club meetings
● There are no club activities
● There are no secret handshakes
● There are no bylaws
● You won't have to wear a funny hat
● You won't have to join a committee
● You won't hit your thumb with a hammer
● You won't have to pass an initiation
● Your contributions are tax deductible
● You will help home ownership to become a reality for those who could not otherwise afford to own a home

By joining the Carpenters Club and committing to regular donations, your support ensures a regular source of funds for building supplies and administrative expenses.

The Carpenter's Club

How exciting it is to see a family who has always lived in substandard housing move into their first "real" home - a home built by Habitat for Humanity of Henry County Area.  The only thing more exciting is to move on and begin the next home for a family anxiously waiting to help build it with us and but it through a twenty-year, no interest loan.

We're looking for 325 "Carpenters" willing to put at least $50 "down" on a Habitat house each time one is built in Henry County.  Your donation of $50, combined with 324 other residents, will provide $16,250 that will enable us to build a foundation for the next house.  We are currently only building two houses per year - $50 is not too much especially when you see the joy on the new homeowner's face.  Larger gifts will help us be prepared for further construction steps.

Consider becoming one of our 325 Carpenters.  You could ask your Sunday school class or organization to become a Carpenter as a group.  Ten people in your group could pledge$10 per house, allowing the group to become "Room Framers" in our Carpenter's Club.

Join the Carpenters' Club and pledge from $50 to $1000 for each home we complete.  Won't you please help?  You can join the Carpenters' Club by filling out  and returning the enrollment form today.
